World Cup fever sweeps Zopa

So the World Cup starts tomorrow and everyone at Zopa’s getting pretty excited about it.

Between us we’ll be cheering for England, Ukraine, Poland, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, and the Socceroos.

And we’ll also be cheering on a couple of individual players - BOROWSKI from Germany and LINDEROTH (pronounced Lender-off) from Sweden. As a lending and borrowing exchange, it seemed only fitting.

I’ll be putting regular posts on the blog to keep you updated about BOROWSKI and LINDEROTH’s progress throughout the tournament.

And at this stage, things are shaping up nicely for both players. An injury to the German captain Michael Ballack means BOROWSKI looks like he might start against Costa Rica tomorrow. And LINDEROTH has shaken off a thigh injury and looks set to be named in Sweden’s starting XI for their opening game against Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.

So come on boys - do it for Zopa.

Well after an overwhelming response from people excited about following the progress of BOROWSKI and LINDEROTH throughout the World Cup with the help of the Zopa blog, here’s my first update:

Borowksi had a good start, being part of a 4-2 German victory against the Costa Ricans. He had a solid game all in all, and was sub’d off after 72 minutes. Zopa rating: 7/10.

Linderoth had a bit of a nightmare to be honest. His team got held 0-0 by the 10 men of Trinidad and Tobago, he got in a big argument with his team mate Ibrahimovic at half-time, and he got brought off after 79 minutes of wandering round the pitch doing little more than look like a scared schoolboy who’s been forced to play with ‘the big boys’. Zopa rating: 4/10.

So a good start for Borowski, and a shocker for Linderoth. Fingers crossed he can make amends in the next game though.
