Our first Zopa affiliates

If you’re a Zopa member, you may have noticed recently that we added an affiliate scheme to the tell-a-friend tab when you log in.

So what’s the difference?

Well, not only can you ask us to mail your friends on you behalf as you might have done before, or send on your own link to people you think would enjoy using Zopa, but we’ve now added some banners and buttons. Which all look handsome, and all of which continue to earn both the existing member and the new member a reward of £30 each once a transaction has been completed, either borrowing or lending.

To see them, simply login and go to your “My Zopa” tab, where you’ll find a link from the Tell-a-Friend page.

Of course let me know if there are any specific shapes or sizes you’d like to see added. And if you’ve been creative in the meantime and made your own, maybe you’d like to submit them to us and if we like them too, we can add them to the list for everyone.

Oh, and a big thanks to a couple of early pioneers of the Zopa affiliate scheme; Frith Lodge Guest House in Dover and Pedro Bananas. Two shining, if somewhat different, examples of how to make use of the new stuff.

I notice that this scheme is already being exploited because £30 is more than the cost a google ad. So, Google for Zopa and ad(s?) appear saying “Zopa Join now, start borrowing or lending and get £30. www.zopa.com” the link then goes to http://www.zopa.com/ZopaWeb/affiliate/?referral=Sels

Thanks for the spot Charles.

At the moment we are not actively buying ads on Google, so at this stage it is in fact helpful for people to do this. They are not directly competing with us and pushing our own bids any higher.

Of course at such time that we do start buying ads on Google we may have to revise the terms of the scheme, but thanks again for highlighting it to us for now. We’ll keep an eye on it.

Charles… that’s not exploitation, that’s what the affiliate scheme is for. People are making nice livings from the google adwords programme and affiliate schemes. I tried it once but my lack of capital and experience saw me end the project early.

Of course Zopa are always going to come out on top in this arrangement but it’s nice for opportunists (aren’t we all?) to make hay while the sun shines.

I have to agree with luke on this one. Zopa are paying people to advertise their website for them without cost if nobody signed up. So they win and win again.

Zopa looks like a brilliant concept and I wish it well, think I might join just become an affiliate.

Luke keep trying with affiliate schemes!!!

Prosper referral program…

Since June Prosper.com runs a referral program that allows Prosper members to refer new lenders or borrowers.
How does it work?
Prosper members are encouraged to put up text links, buttons or banners on their websites that advertise for Prosper. I…
