Hot on the trail of our recent feature in the UsNow film hosted by Nesta, Zopa will again be featuring in a forthcoming event at the Nesta HQ on 21st January 2009.
It’s entitled WeB@nk.
We and other participants in this presentation and discussion will be asking “whether the democratic and social nature of the internet is changing the way we understand finance”.

Hi there
I was at the event last night and I thought Giles did very well in dealing with the points raised by the incredibly smug banker chap. He obviously had not done his homework on Zopa and his protest that big banks “understand” P2P lending but just have no idea how to go about it, was hilarious.
I did think the academic on the panel was also a bit OTT on the theory. I get the disintermediation argument but surely P2P lending has been going on forever, but Zopa simply allows it to reach new heights (and to be profitable) - much in the same way eBay provides an alternative to the car boot sale or the charity shop.
Anyway, delighted to see that things are going so well!
