Caption Competition

On Tuesday a few of the Zopa team went out for a few evening lemonades to say farewell to Jenny. It was an enjoyable night, and while sipping at our lemonades I popped out my camera to take some pictures of our merry crew for our Facebook Page, and one photo in particular deserved a post of its very own. In fact we thought it deserved a competition of its own since it has been a week since our last competition, the Marmite Giveaway!. So on that note, we bring you our Caption Competition. We have a lovely photo below of Briony and Myself, both pulling a questionable expression, now all you have to do is give it a caption, or try and guess what we were talking about for us to have this expression on our faces. To enter, all you need to do is leave us a comment with your caption, we'll then pick our favourite out of the responses and the winner will win a pack of 90 Zopa stickers, and something extra, which is a surprise! Since the weekend, and bank holiday is approaching we are going to let this run until Tuesday 31st August, this should give you all plenty of time to get your captions in! Here's the photo... Happy captioning! Update: And the winner is.... Richard Quadling! With his entry: "Briony practises her latest Vulcan mind control techniques. Adam is unmoved by the attempt." You prize is on its way over to you! - We won't say what the surprise prize is just yet, we'll wait till you receive it.

Yummy treats at Zopa

Here at Zopa we like to try weird and wonderful things. In July our nice friends at Gu sent our weight in chocolately treats, which we all very much enjoyed. Then on Friday we had a nice surprise from @loudmouthman who brought us a rather odd surprise in the form of Marmite Chocolate (Yes, you heard right. Marmite Chocolate!) which was made just for him by @mrsimmshorsham. However odd it may sound, it was in fact rather yummy! (Though Steve may say the opposite!) Nic recorded a video of his day out in London with the chocolate which you can see our reactions at the end. So, Marmite, love it or hate it? We do love to try new things here at Zopa, so if you have something you want some honest feedback with (or just fancy sending us a yummy present) please pop us an email or give us a call.

It was only a little one (on the way in…)

Slightly silly Friday afternoon post - forgive me, it's been a hard week. Thomas (our resident guru of all things technical) made a very intelligent, reasonable and considered comment on Techcrunch this afternoon (Finding the comment is left as an exercise for the reader so as not to spoil Zopa's good name quote so blatently.) We're all expressing our general love and admiration for Thomas when Tom, (yes - the one with the mug below) decides to contribute to the same post in a manner so juvenile and childish that we are, frankly, shocked. Although we did laugh. Actually, Tom (not Thomas - important) laughed so much that he swallowed the pen lid that he was chewing on at the time. It was a Bic™ on the way in. What it'll be on the way out is anyone's guess....

Pun-tastic

Ed, one of our developers who's busy beavering away on our new website pointed out this unintentional piece of humour on one of our pages. Well, we laughed. Sole trader

Blame Canada!

So the old saying goes that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...so I guess we should be flattered? Take a look and see what you think. Spot the difference? Ooo...those dastardly Canadians. (Apart from the nice ones, obviously.) Ann Little (Available to answer questions at larkinmarni@hotmail.com according to the WhoIs information) you should be ashamed of yourself! Do your own design work next time guys! (And just in case they should have a change of heart...here is the Google cache in all it's glory.) Update: To save you the trouble of clicking through, here are the two homepages for a side by side comparison:

Killing time?

Couldn't resist this story - NatWest customers were complaining about the length of time they had to wait in queues....so NatWest have decided to remove clocks from the branches. Unofficial employee comment:
"With a clock there, it was difficult for us to disagree with them. Without one it’s harder for them to complain."
Official bank response:
NatWest spokesman Ronan Kelleher said a survey undertaken before the refit found clocks were not something customers believed would “enhance their banking experience."

At least we got one thing right…

I'm sure I shouldn't do this, but anyway, it's Friday... We love getting feedback from members, and occasionally we get one that's worthy of a wider audience. This is one of them.
Your sight design is all wrong, it looks terrible, you need to change have with a plain white background, with suttle colors, the name is terrible to ZOPA???? You need a proffesional name not ZOPA. The idea is great.
Anyone else like to take up the 'great re-naming Zopa challenge'? Go on - give us a giggle. There might even be a prize*...but don't tell our CFO. *OK then, some free chocolate
