Wandering in Wales – the winner of the Zopa Road Trip competition

We loved hearing from our customers about their best road trips in their Zopa vehicles. There were loads of good ones (and lots of inspiration for our next trip).

But there could only be one winner, so a big congratulations to Andy from South Wales, who won the competition for telling us about his road trip around his home country in his new campervan.

We caught up with him to hear more about his trip.

Setting off

“I brought my campervan in March 2016. I’d had a campervan years ago and had always said I’d go back to it. When I made the decision, I came straight to Zopa for my car loan as I’ve been a customer of yours before.

“Since then I’ve travelled to many locations in the UK, but my favourite road trip took me from my home in South Wales up to the Herefordshire countryside to visit my daughter for a few days before travelling up to Anglesey.”

A room with a different view every night

“It was my first time in Anglesey, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t good. I parked up and spent one night overlooking the sea with fantastic views, but then travelled on down to Snowdonia National Park.

“It’s that flexibility that is so great with a campervan. Not only does it mean that you can see lots of places, but it’s like having a room with a different view every night.”

“I drove down through the Snowdonia national park, taking in some fantastic scenery and stunning villages. From here I travelled over to the west coast and down through Pembrokeshire, stopping at New quay to watch the dolphins in the bay.

“Then onto St David’s to see the smallest cathedral city in Wales. From here it was a short journey to a lovely beach where I parked up overnight on the sand. After a beach BBQ, I settled down listening to the sound of the sea. The final journey took me to Tenby and Saundersfoot for a day exploring, before heading back home to South Wales.”

And his road trip essential?

“With the means to cook, eat and sleep in my van the one essential item for any road trip has to be tea bags. Nothing beats being able to pull over when and where you like for that perfect brew. It’s not the most glamourous tipple, but it’s essential!”

Thanks for sharing your story Andy!
