As part of Zopa’s mission to help the nation feel good about their finances, we commissioned the Ice Cream Index to identify the top 100 summer items that bring us the most happiness per pound. And for some inspiration for how to turn the Ice Cream Index into FeelGood summer days that don’t break the bank, we teamed up with some of our social media favourites to see what they did.
The Ice Cream Index found that watching football was one of the things that made Brits happiest during the summer months.
But what to do in those years when there aren’t any international tournaments? And particularly if you are the parent of three boys, including a football-mad captain of the Under 11s?
This was just the situation that interior blogger and mum-of-three Antonia Ludden found herself in. But with a little creativity, she managed to take her boys on a football-themed FeelGood day out without breaking the bank.
Here’s what they did:
Antonia booked four tickets to the Manchester United stadium. With such a large family, big days out don’t come cheap, but sometimes it’s worth the cost to make those FeelGood summer memories.
It was a dream day for her youngest, and even though Antonia and her middle son aren’t into football, they still enjoyed seeing behind-the-scenes. They sat in the players’ seats in the dressing room and got up close to the pitch, generating some serious lawn envy in Antonia!
Tickets for the stadium tour: £70
After that they headed home for dinner. A home-cooked family meal was high up in the Ice Cream Index, so it’s the perfect, budget-friendly way to end a big day out like Antonia’s trip to Old Trafford.
